A small pouch that sits between your gum and your upper lip. “Buccal” just means the inside of the cheek and lip — the tissue there is thin and richly supplied with blood, so what the pouch releases is absorbed directly rather than swallowed.

That is the whole reason the format works. A drink has to go down, through your stomach, before any of it reaches you. A buccal pouch skips that, which is what lets it release steadily across 25 minutes instead of arriving in one hit — and why it needs no water and no free hand.
